Vom ETS2/ATS im Space in Form von Star Trucker, gibt es nun endlich eine VR-Mod kostenlos im Nexus.

Star Trucker VR
Developed by Destroyjevski with the assistance of AI coding agents, one of whom spent an unreasonable amount of time looking for a steering wheel that does not exist.

Stereo 3D with full 6DOF head tracking.
Play with a gamepad, just like in flat mode. Tracked motion controllers are not implemented.
No original game files are overwritten. The package only adds files; removing them restores the vanilla game.

Installation

Steam -> Star Trucker -> right click -> Manage -> Browse local files.

Open the StarTruckerVR-1.0.0 folder from the download.

Copy its entire contents into the Star Trucker game folder and merge the folders when asked.

In the Virtual Desktop Streamer app, select VDXR as the OpenXR runtime.

Launch the game normally through Steam.

MelonLoader 0.7.3 is included with the mod. Star Trucker VR was developed and tested with this version. Merging the package with another MelonLoader installation or replacing it with a different version may prevent the mod from working correctly.

Virtual Desktop with VDXR is the only tested OpenXR setup.
SteamVR and Quest Link provide alternative PC OpenXR runtimes and may work, but they received no testing during development. Compatibility with them is unknown.

First launch only: expect a longer startup while MelonLoader generates the required IL2CPP helper files. This can take several minutes, and the game window may remain black during the process.
Don't kill it. Later launches are much faster.

Switching between VR and Flat mode
VR is active immediately after installation. No batch file is needed to start in VR.

To play normally in flat mode, run Play in Flat.bat.
To enable the VR mod again, run Back to VR.bat.

Both files are located in the game folder. Close the game before switching modes. The batch files only change the mod state; start the game normally afterward.

Savegames are shared between VR and flat mode because it is still the same installation and the same game.

What's different in VR
Head aiming: Picking up objects, operating cockpit controls and other interactions follow your gaze instead of the vertical camera-stick direction.
Target reticle: A small white dot marks the current interaction direction.
Interaction prompts: Context prompts follow the gaze reticle instead of remaining at an unrelated screen position.
Right stick: Horizontal input still turns the character or seated view. Vertical camera input is disabled while walking and while seated.
Looking up and down is done with your head.
Recenter: Click the right stick (R3) to recenter and place the HUD in your current headset direction. F9 provides the same function as a keyboard fallback.
Truck movement: While seated, the VR view inherits the truck's full movement and rotation. Walking inside the truck remains upright.
EVA: The helmet interior follows the headset pose.

Known limitations

Virtual Desktop with VDXR is the only tested runtime.

SteamVR and Quest Link OpenXR received no testing.

No tracked motion-controller support.

Gamepad, keyboard and mouse remain the supported input methods.

Minor menu shimmer can occur.

Some sunlight or shadow differences between the eyes may remain.

Development and testing concentrated mainly on the early portion of the game. Later-game situations have not received testing.

UninstallationClose the game before removing files.
Remove:

To remove the included MelonLoader installation as well, also remove:

the MelonLoader folder

Only remove MelonLoader or the OpenXR files if no other mod in the same game installation depends on them.
Do not delete the complete Mods, Plugins or UserData folders if they contain files belonging to other mods.

Privacy
Star Trucker VR itself contains no telemetry, network client or account integration.
The distributed package contains no personal information, user-specific paths, logs or screenshots.
MelonLoader creates local logs while the game runs and may download required helper dependencies during its initial setup. Those runtime-generated files are not part of StarTruckerVR itself.

Verwalten und Warten
Deinen Truck flugbereit zu halten ist nicht immer einfach. Du musst dafür sorgen, dass deine Hauptsysteme in Betrieb sind, der Schwerkraftkompensator läuft und die Hülle geflickt ist, um zu verhindern, dass Sauerstoff austritt.

Mach vor deinen Touren Halt bei Werkstätten, um Ersatzteile zu bekommen, und denk auch darüber nach, deinen Truck zu verbessern. So stellst du sicher, dass du gefährliche Sektoren durchqueren und deine Fracht pünktlich abliefern kannst.

Ehrlich gesagt, habe ich auch schon lange darauf gewartet. Hoffentlich komme ich am Wochenende mal dazu hier hineinzuschauen.
